We like this robot vacuum because it comes with many features and it has a very low operating cost. However, compared to similar products within its price range, its actual cleaning capacity is quite weak.

Those of you who are familiar with the former version of the Neato Signature will probably realize that the Neato XV Signature Pro Pet & Allergy vacuum doesn’t come with many improvements. Some might even say that the only major improvements are the extra brush and the extra filter. Indeed the XV Signature Pro comes with two brushes and two filters, which greatly improve its performance. The unit costs $449.99, a reasonable price for a vacuum cleaner. However, let’s analyze it better and see if it can manage to surpass our expectations.

Technical specifications

This vacuum robot can be used both on hard surfaces and on carpets. It can run continuously for 60 minutes, which is a decent amount of time, despite the fact that at the moment, there are a few similar products on the market that can run for two hours straight. It takes 180 minutes to charge, which is quite a lot since most units take 120 minutes to charge. So, if you have a big house which is unlikely to be vacuumed in less than an hour, this robot not be the right choice for you. Surprisingly enough, this unit has a one-inch climbing height (better than any other similar product of the moment).

Features

As far as innovative features go, the Neato XV Signature model is quite impressive. It has a multi room navigational system and programmable features such as scheduled cleanings. Moreover, it has a dirt sensor, a ledge sensor, a spot cleaning feature, a multiple passes feature, and it even returns to the charging dock on its own. These features are great, because it makes the robot vacuum very flexible, allowing you to use it for several purposes, such as cleaning only a small area, cleaning several rooms, or programming it to do the cleaning when you are not even at home. We like that it features boundary markers. These markers are magnetic strips that you can use in order to delimit off-limit spaces. The vacuum features sensors which read the magnetic strips, thus avoiding knocking over vases or causing other accidents. It does not come with a virtual wall or a virtual lighthouse, which would have been nice in order to prevent the robot from doing unnecessary cleaning in certain parts of the house since the boundary markers can only apply to small objects.

Performance

As we already mentioned, the double filter and the two brushes considerably increase the performance of this vacuum robot. The patented laser technology is also pretty cool, as it allows the robot to systematically clean the room, instead of bumping around aimlessly like cheaper models. Even so, we have to say, that this item, does not do as good as a job as similar products at cleaning the carpet or any hard surface for that matter. If you don’t have carpets, and your main concern is pet hair, the vacuum will satisfy your needs, but when it comes to dirtier surfaces, it is not that efficient.

Maintenance and ease of use

When it comes to operating costs, this Neato XV vacuum is quite cheap. The filters will cost you about $20 per year, while the battery will cost you only $49 per year, amounting to a $69 yearly operating cost. Compared to all of the other vacuums that we’ve seen, this is as cheap as it gets for a cleaner. This is a very important aspect to consider as some robot vacuums can even cost you as much as $200 per year. As far as ease of use goes, this clever cleaner is pretty easy to operate, it takes less than 6 minutes to change its filter, and is very maneuverable. Moreover, it is reasonably quiet, with a maximum noise level of 68 dB, which is about as loud as the average conversation. For your convenience, it features a status light and a full bin indicator. We like that it has a bigger filter and dirt bin that other similar products, so it doesn’t need to be maintained that often.

Design and Accessories

This product weighs 8.6 pounds, so it’s a tad heavy compared to similar units. It has a 13-inch diameter and a 4-inch height. It features an ergonomic carrying handle, and it comes with a bristle brush, a flexible brush, a charging base, and a soft bumper.

Warranty and support

Like most robots of the moment, this unit comes with a limited 1-year warranty. As far as support goes, it comes with an easy-to-read user manual and the manufacturer is very responsive to any possible problems or inquiries. However, they don’t provide a lot of online support, which is a shame cause most costumers can make good use of online tutorials when it comes to innovative appliances such as vacuum cleaners.

Final Thoughts

After analyzing the technical specifications and features of this vacuum, we are able to decide how efficient it is, compared to similar units within its price range. Therefore, we can say that this incredible product provides plenty of benefits. It comes with a navigational system and programmable features that make the robot extremely versatile, allowing you to use it for several purposes. All in all, this is an efficient robot that will surely satisfy all your needs.

Does it come with a power adapter? I’m asking because I want to buy the robot for my parents who live in England, so I need a model that can work with 240V.

Do the sensors of this robot actually help it avoid furniture pieces and other obstacles around the house?

The sensors that this unit features are capable or reading the magnetic strips. This means that they sense the approach to an obstacle, changing the path for the robot to not intersect with that specific obstacle.

I bought this robot vacuum 4-5 months ago. I’m satisfied with its overall performance, and I recommended to those who want to come home without having to worry about vacuuming. The only flaw of this robot is the fact that it takes a little too much to charge, which is pretty inconvenient when I’m in a hurry.

Hi, Eric. It’s recommended that you replace your filters once a month. Nevertheless, depending on the dust they collect, you may need to replace them more often.
